Guidelines for Low-Risk Gambling
14 Aug 2006
Low-risk gambling is usually taken up with friends or family in a social atmosphere. Even those who take up online gambling enjoy the social vibe in the chat rooms and around virtual card tables. Low-risk gamblers know that everyone loses at casinos or online and don't become depressed or moody over wins. They accept that gambling is just like any other pastime and see it as a form of entertainment and not as a way to get rich.
Low-risk gambling is also done within moderation. Gamblers know how long their gambling sessions will be and when the right time to stop is. Low-risk gambling does not involve endless sessions at sporadic times and certainly not 24/7 with no breaks. The most important difference between low-risk gambling and problematic wagering is the amount of money spent. Low-risk gamblers budget for their gambling sessions and know exactly how much money they have to dispense and how much they are willing (and able) to lose. Compulsive gamblers, on the other hand, throw caution to the wind and spend a lot more than they can afford to.
Thankfully, the majority of gamblers fall into the low-risk gambling sector and know how to limit this pastime. However, if gambling becomes a problem, there are plenty of help lines and counseling services to choose from and gamblers should not hesitate to seek help if need be.
