Online Gambling Chiefs Differ on Poker Future
18 May 2006
In a recent interview to the UK Financial Times, CEO of the 888 online gambling group, John Anderson, said that he believes that the hype surrounding online poker gambling will pop in the near future. Anderson was talking generally about poker gambling in poker rooms both online and offline and said that the market could not sustain the rate of user signups which is currently characteristic in the online gambling market.
Anderson's pessimistic views were widely reported on the media, especially is comment in which he stated that if the rates of poker gambling keep growing at this pace, everyone will be playing poker and no one will be working. Another executive in the online gambling industry, Marketing Director of PKR Simon Prodger, said that there are still very healthy growth rates in the online gambling market and the ceiling has not nearly been reached.
Prodger added that many online gambling sites had the wrong idea about expanding their poker rooms. He said that many of them just add blackjack and other games to their lists instead of developing the game of poker itself. His newly arrived poker site, PKR, plans to enter into the offline poker rooms market too. He believes that there is unlimited potential in the poker market and an expansive section of it is still untapped.
