Online Casinos and the Battle of the Sexes
25 May 2006
You see it everywhere you go in our society - subtle messages or brash announcements that men are better than women or vice versa. Surprisingly, online casinos have not been left out of the battle between the sexes. As soon as online casinos realized the vast potential in the female market, cocky male players started making snide comments about the playing and gambling abilities of the fairer sex. Whether this was done to lower the self-confidence of female players or simply because male gamblers felt their 'rightful' place threatened at the online casinos, the first shot was fired and the battle began.
The vast majority of female gamblers only discovered online casinos in recent years. Before then, online casinos remained a male domain - a place where the guys met for a good ol' hand of poker and a few beers. However, as more and more online casinos started popping up all over the internet, and competition became fiercer, gambling companies started marketing their sites to alternative sources of gamblers and thus the female player market was born.
Today you can find some online casinos dedicated only to women players. Women-only poker tournaments are a big hit at several major online casinos, perhaps leaving the men feeling a little bit left out. This could explain some of the nasty remarks on message boards across the internet regarding the playing ability of women; however, women know when to ignore this type of childish behavior and continue to become a great force in the world of online gambling.
